Bok van Blerk to perform on Saturday
Fans at Saturday's game between Saracens and Blue Bulls are not just in for a great game of rugby on the field as they will also be treated to a performance from one of South Africa’s leading recording artists, Bok van Blerk.
The musician will be singing on the pitch before the match and at half time while following the final whistle, he and his band will be performing a number of his hits in the Olympic Bar.
Bok van Blerk first shot to fame in March 2006 when he launched his first album ‘Jy praat nog steeds my tal’ and in October that year, the album was released again but under the title ‘De la Rey’. Since then this song has become hugely popular in the Afrikaner nation.
The album became one of the top sellers in 2007 having sold more than 200,000 copies, making it one of the most successful Afrikaans albums of all time and winning him a number of awards.
In 2007 he helped produce the ‘Ons vir jou’ rugby music album which sold over 90,000 copies. Following the success of ‘De la Rey’ his second album ‘Afrikanerhart’ achieved double platinum status.
In 2010 he was the top selling South African artist of the year while his 2013 album ‘Steek die vure aan’ included two number one singles and topped the charts in his homeland for six weeks.
In 2011 he demonstrated another of his talents to take the male lead in the film ‘Platteland’ the biggest Afrikaan film of the year and he followed that up with another leading role in the successful film ‘As Jy Sing’
Bok van Blerk is no stranger to Saracens matches having performed at Wembley Stadium in 2009 when the club faced South Africa.
