'Confidence is building' - Strettle
David Strettle was back amongst the tries once again at Allianz Park, as the free-scoring winger crossed the whitewash twice in Saracens’ 22-6 win against London Irish.
Strettle has now scored 6 tries in his last 7 games at Allianz Park, and the prolific 31-year old praised Saracens' game management during conditions that he himself admitted we far from ”ideal” for free-flowing rugby.
“It was great to be back involved today,” Strettle said. “You could say that the conditions were not ideal for a winger, but I think the whole backline played and defended really well. We’re very happy as a team today. It’s all about building confidence, we know we’re a good team, and we know can play really well. For a couple of weeks we haven’t been firing on all cylinders but I think we’re getting there now".
On the game, he said: “In conditions like today's you don’t want to be the team who just kick long - if it’s on, you want to play and I thought Owen (Farrell) managed the game superbly today. To be on the end of some of the moves is great, but it’s full credit to guys who make the space for you.
“It’s a great team to part of as you constantly have that confidence that your nines and tens will put you in the right areas and as a team you will defend well".
Saracens have now won five games on the bounce as they head to Kingsholm for round 13 of the Premiership next Friday to face Gloucester.
On Saracens' next fixture, he added “Gloucester is another tough place for us to go. There are no easy games in this league so we now we will have to be at our best if we are going to come away with a result”.
