Speaking after the game, Itoje said: “I feel very happy, I’m filled with joy at the moment. I’m so proud of everyone, the team, the staff, everyone who has come into the set-up and contributed. It’s been a great team effort, and a lot of players have been putting shifts in week-in-week-out, and I’m happy for them. It’s been a good night.
“This is team is one of the tightest teams that I’ve ever been a part of, everyone gets along with each other and everyone enjoys each other’s company. We train hard and I think this team is right up there with any side I’ve played in, that fight, that determination is incredible."
Itoje added: “Joe (Shaw) has led our team fantastically and I think he’s spot on when he says it’s our togetherness is what has helped us win this competition. We’re ecstatic.”
