Elite Coach Education Building Success Factors
Last week saw the 4th instalment of the Saracens Elite Coach Education Programme for the 2014/15 season. The evening saw 80 Saracens Partner Club and DPP coaches attend the session with Guest Speaker Mark Bennett MBE from Performance Development Systems.
Mark believes in a “practitioner” based approach. He soon identified that many theories that may look good on paper or in controlled environments are not so effective in the “real world”.
The session explored the science behind how we coach, and the relationship between athletes and coaches themselves ultimately aiding to what leads to successful learning environments. Mark shared his work experience in mentoring Bath Rugby’s Mike Ford and how these methods in training have changed the mentality of the way the players now train and perform in games, with obvious results with their improving form this season.
The Elite Coach Education Programme is designed to give all coaches guidance and more knowledge of all areas of not just rugby but coaching methods across all sports to improve their delivery at all age groups. The evening was another great link of the Elite Programme with the Developing Player Pathway Programme, which saw coaches from all three of the Saracens Academy Pathway counties attend.
The programme will see four more sessions taking place before the end of the season with the next two dates detailed below.
