Ellery delighted with Sarries response
Mike Ellery praised Saracens’ response, after they scored 21 unanswered points to defeat Exeter Chiefs 35-18 at Allianz Park.
Saracens fell behind early in the second half, when Exeter wing Tom James crossed for a try to make the scores 14-18 to the Chiefs. Saracens showed great composure and patience to score three converted tries in a devastating 20 minute spell to take the game away from the Devonshire side.
Speaking after the game, Ellery said: “We just picked up our energy again and Speno (Ben Spencer) and Nils (Mordt) just put is in the right positions. Our forwards really picked up their game and we good just play off the back of that. Everything seemed to click and we scored 21 unanswered points.
“We’ve got a real buzz in this team. The majority of the lads were they guys who won the A-League and we have a set group and it’s been brilliant to play in.”
Saracens will now face Northampton Saints in the LV=Cup final four, with Allianz Park hosting the LV=Cup semi-final on Saturday 14 March.
“Saints are a great team and are big rivals of Sarries,” said Ellery, “so it will be great to play in one of those kind of games in front of our home supporters. It’s something this group are all looking forward to.”
