'Everybody has heard of Wembley' - Catalin Fercu
From the pitches of Timisoara to the world famous Wembley Stadium, Saracens winger Catalin Fercu’s rugby journey has been quite a remarkable one.
Fercu finds himself on the bench for Saracens’ derby day encounter with Harlequins at Wembley Stadium. Less than 12 months ago the Romanian international was turning out for Timisoara Saracens in the SuperLiga (Romanian domestic league).
The talented speedster was spotted by the Saracens coaches whilst on a trip to global network club Timisoara Saracens last year, and Fercu linked up with the team last summer.
Speaking ahead of the game Fercu was understandably excited: “Everybody has heard of Wembley. It’s one of the most famous stadiums in the world – I’m very excited to be in the squad for the match.”
Catalin Fercu played in the LV= Cup final last weekend and made a superb last ditch tackle in the second half, stopping a certain try.
“It was a fantastic day for me and the team last weekend, but everyone is now focused on the game at Wembley.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to come and play in England. I’ve tried to work hard every day in training and do my best on the pitch for the team.
“When I came to Saracens last summer it was like I was joining a family - everyone was so welcoming.
He added: “This is a special club and I’m very happy to be here. To get the opportunity to be involved at a game at Wembley is a dream. I'm sure it will be a great memory.
