Focus key to Chiefs win - Shaw
Saracens coach Joe Shaw praised his side’s diligence and attention to detail, after they beat Exeter Chiefs 35-18 at Allianz Park to reach the last four of the LV=Cup.
The nucleus of the side that beat the Chiefs in an entertaining seven try contest, contained the players who secured Saracens Storm’s Premiership A-League title in an unbeaten campaign for Joe Shaw’s men early this season. Now with four out of four wins in the LV=Cup this Saracens side continues to march on.
On the game, Shaw said: “We were very focused today. I think they boys once again executed the plan that we’d talked about and practiced all week. The lads did well. If you look at some for individual performances, guys like Nick de Jager, Jackson Wray and Matt Hankin – they came around the corner all game and were just exceptional. There were some great performances but it really was a team effort out there today.
“It was nice to get a few senior players back. We had a good mix of players today with the boys who have made up the Storm team, and a few older heads plus some guest player from other clubs.”
Shaw added: “We knew what we had to do all week, win and we’d go through. We’re very happy with the result.”
