George shortlisted for Community award
Saracens hooker Jamie George is one of six Premiership players to have been shortlisted for the prestigious Aviva Community Player of the Season award, Premiership Rugby today confirmed.
The sextet from five different Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs will discover who has won this important award at the sold out Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards on 15 May at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
They have made the shortlist after making an exceptional contribution to a number of local and national projects with all six going above and beyond the call of duty in supporting these causes.
"Premiership Rugby's community work is lucky to be supported by over 600 professional players across our clubs, who look to enthuse and inspire communities while acting as fantastic role models to young local people. From that huge group, these six have emerged following exceptional seasons off the field to make it on to this shortlist," said Premiership Rugby's Community and CSR Director, Wayne Morris.
"We are very proud of our Community Programmes and of the efforts from all of the players involved. Picking the winner will be very difficult as they have all produced compelling cases."
Saracens Sport Foundation Manager Sam Fulling; "We are very proud of the time and effort that our players give in the community, often going above and beyond to ensure that they engage our participants. As a squad we have a fantastic group of players and it is difficult to pick out an individual, but this nomination is just reward for the hundreds of hours that Jamie puts in off the pitch, representing the club and the Saracens players in our Community.”
The full shortlist is:
Jamie George - Saracens
Mat Gilbert - Bath Rugby
Dylan Hartley - Northampton Saints
Dean Schofield - Worcester Warriors
Tane Tu'ipulotu - Newcastle Falcons
