Goode - 'We gave 100%'
Saracens full-back Alex Goode believes Saracens can leave St-Etienne’s Stade Geoffroy-Guichard with their heads held high after they were defeated 13-9 by ASM Clermont Aurvergne in a tight contest.
Goode believes Saracens can take a lot of pride from a gallant defeat to the Montferrand side, and has challenged his side to let their semi-final exit sour what has been a fine season for the Allianz Park side.
Speaking after the game, Goode said: "We stopped them (ASM Clermont Auvergne) from playing and it was a great chance for us. But the character of the squad shone through, we gave 100 per cent and this won't detract from our season.
"We defended very well and were pleased with our first half. They stopped playing a bit in the second half and we should have capitalised a bit more on that but we could not get on the front foot and move them around more."
"They had front foot ball for once and made the most of it. A small moment like that killed us because the game was on a knife-edge up until then - we couldn't recover from that score.
"The noise was unbelievable and it was great to play in a packed stadium - even though everyone seemed to be against us.
