Gustard predicting 'tough' visit to Kingsholm
Paul Gustard believes his Saracens side are well prepared for Friday’s game away to a Gloucester team full of confidence on the back of an impressive away win against their West Country rivals, Exeter Chiefs last weekend.
The Men in Black go into Friday’s Premiership clash on a five game winning streak against what Gustard believes is a rejuvenated Cherry & Whites outfit, and the Saracens defence coach is predicting Friday’s game will be an ‘incredibly tough’ assignment for the north Londoners’.
Gustard said: “Certainly for me in particular, being a defensive coach we’re always pretty confident going into games. We’re well prepared, we’re in a good place but Kingsholm is Kingsholm. It’s one of most revered grounds in the country and they have fanatical support. They have a great coaching set-up and some star players. As always, it’s going to be incredibly tough over there.
“There’s certainly more steel to Gloucester. I think they have the fourth best ranked scrum in the competition at the moment, and their maul has always been a strong weapon for them. Throw in guys like John Afoa, Richard Hibbard, Nick Wood in the front row, and internationals like Tom Palmer, Ben Morgan, Kalamafoni and Kvesic, their team is littered with quality players."
Gustard added: “There’s some massive games coming up for us, but we have put other games to one side and have concentrated on Gloucester and given them our full respect as they are dangerous team. We don’t want to come unstuck having done so well over the last five weeks.”
