Harlequins Match Reaction: Joe Shaw
Saracens coach Joe Shaw was pleased with his sides first-half showing as they beat Harlequins 25-20 at Allianz Park in round one of the LV=Cup.
Saracens ran in three tries in what proved to be a tight contest against the south-west Londoners, in a game where Saracens skipper Maro Itoje produced a fine individual display in his first game as LV=Cup club captain.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shaw said; “We created so much in the first-half, scored two tries and unfortunately had another two disallowed. But I was happy with the way things were going.
"We were forcing things a little but let’s give credit where credit’s due, Harlequins are a good side. Our aim was to get to get down into their half and start to play, but they stopped us from doing that, but we’re happy to get the win and move on to face the Ospreys next Friday."
On Maro Itoje’s Man of the Match display he added; “This was a step in the right direction for him (Itoje) today, and I think today showed he’s pushing on very quickly.
“He’s a fantastic talent. He’s come off the back of winning with the England U20s and had a really good preseason. I think the way he has led the Storm in the A-League with the maturity with the way he talks has been impressive. He leads by example on the pitch, and is a real calming influence for people around him.”
