Hougaard Wembley drop-goal tops fans poll
Derick Hougaard's match-winning drop goal against South Africa in 2009 has been voted fans most popular Saracens North vs South moment in an online poll.
On the eve of another blockbuster clash between Saracens and South African opposition, Hougaard's 73rd minute drop-goal at Wembley Stadium was selected as Sarries supporters most cherished moment of games between the north Londoner's and South African opposition.
The metronomic fly-half's famous three pointer against the Springboks was chosen ahead of Ernst Joubert's charge-down try in the same game, Charlie Hodgson's interception score against The Sharks at a packed Allianz Park in January 2014 and Mouritz Botha's memorable try against Western Province earlier this season.
“Everyone in South Africa saw that night what an up and coming club Saracens are,” said Hougaard. “It was a special night at a special ground like Wembley. The whole of South Africa sat up and took notice of Sarries and lots of people in South Africa text me when Sarries are on TV. They have lots of supporters there.”
