Impala Saracens defeat Kenyan Quins
Impala Saracens defeated local rivals Kenya Harlequins in the much anticipated Ngong Road derby; the visitors triumphed 33-22 ending their hosts unbeaten start to the season.
In a topsy-turvy affair Impala Saracens ran out worthy winners, scoring five tries against the 2010 Kenya Cup champions.
The first half was a tight affair with Impala Saracens narrowly leading 14-12 after the teams traded two tries apiece. The second period saw much of the same, as the teams continued to cancel each other out. Man of the match Sammy Oliech had been at the heart of much of Impala’s good play, and took matters into his own hands with a brilliant score in the corner to wrap up the points minutes from time.
The Ngong Road derby is one of the highlights of the Kenya Cup season. Featuring two top Kenyan rugby clubs who happen to have their stadiums on the same road; they do battle twice a season, with the victor taking the neighbourhood bragging rights and the three points. This time round Impala Saracens came up trumps to the delight of the travelling faithful.
