McCall left frustrated after Tigers draw
Director of rugby Mark McCall lamented his sides discipline after Saracens drew with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road earlier today.
The Tigers snatched a draw in the final seconds after a controversial call at a scrum gave Owen Williams the opportunity to level up the scores. After the game McCall spoke of his disappointment with the decision, but believed his side should have seen off the contest much earlier in the game.
McCall said; “When you are winning the game with 45 seconds to go you’re obviously disappointed not to win the game. We should never had been in that position really. It was a very tight game, and was a real arm-wrestle throughout. We seemed to have the edge through the whole game, and when we were six points up we found a way of letting them back into the match. Our discipline wasn’t up to our usual standards.
“Charlie Hodgson, Richard Wigglesworth and Alex Goode all impressed. The three of them managed the game brilliantly and put us into great field position, winning positions, but we kept on finding a way to get Leicester back into the game, not necessarily through their good play but by giving away some really soft penalties really."
He added; “We put ourselves in the position to give the touch judge a decision at the end. We’re obviously disappointed with that decision but we should have never been in that position in the first place.”
