McCall praises fantastic Saracens display
Director of Rugby Mark McCall was delighted with his side’s performance to secure a semi-final berth in the Heineken Cup with a 27-16 victory over Ulster at Twickenham.
He said: “Ulster are probably the best side we have faced all season. We knew beforehand that they are well organised, well coached; so for us to be 27-9 up with 10 minutes to go, against a side of their quality, says a lot about the quality of our performance.
“I thought we worked unbelievably hard throughout the match and we were brilliantly defensively. Our defensive line-out was very important today, we stole some very important possession from them and ultimately we took our opportunities when they came. Overall I thought we controlled the game throughout.”
He also paid tribute to his captain Steve Borthwick after his side impressively booked their place in the last four of the competition.
“I thought Steve was exceptional today," said McCall. “Not only at the lineout, but his work defensively he was superb and some of the steals Steve got today really broke their momentum down. He turned over possession in the loose and had a very good game today.
“Our defence was outstanding. This group has an unbelievable work ethic for each other.”
