Melck red card - a 'mistake'
Saracens will urgently seek to overturn the red card shown to Justin Melck at Welford Road on Saturday.
The flanker was sent off early in the second half when the touch judge indicated Melck had gouged the eye of the Leicester hooker.
A club spokesman said: “The touch judge obviously thought he saw something, but he certainly didn’t see what he thought. Justin made no contact with an eye, a fact corroborated by the Leicester player afterwards. It was a simple human mistake, albeit a very disappointing mistake for a charming man playing perhaps his last competitive match for the club.
“Saracens will do everything possible to ensure this red card is rescinded. To their great credit, Leicester Tigers have offered their unequivocal support.”
