Alex Lozowski: "It's a Great Fixture"

Saracens’ Alex Lozowski says that the atmosphere of Welford Road will be ‘perfect’ as they travel to play Leicester on Christmas Eve.

The Men in Black currently occupy fourth place in the Aviva Premiership but know that a win could take them up to second place and Lozowski says that he and his teammates are excited by the prospect of facing play-off rivals Tigers.

The 24-year-old said: “Welford Road is a great place to play, it’s going to be Christmas Eve and a packed out stadium which is perfect for us and what we’re looking forward to.

“It’s almost like last week again, going to quite a hostile atmosphere, we’re going to have to stick together and make sure we do all the right things to give ourselves a foothold in the game and try and take our chances when they come.

“Everyone’s dead excited by going to Welford Road and playing against Leicester, it’s a great fixture and one that you look forward to at the start of the season and it’s a massive game especially given the results that we’ve both had recently.”

The match marks a return to domestic action after a European double-bill home and away against Clermont and Lozowski regards the away game of those two fixtures as an important turning point for Sarries.

He explained: “We’ve got some really important games coming up and I think the performance in Clermont is something for us to hang our hats on to build and get better.

“We try and get everything from within, create our own atmosphere and create our own vibe and energy; we stripped it right back last week, going back to basics and focusing on a few key things that we felt if we got right we’d be giving ourselves a huge chance in the game.”

Lozowski starts once again in the number 12 shirt at the weekend and the England international says that it’ll be a hotly contested game with both sides ‘desperate’ for a win.

“We’re desperate to win the next game,” He said, “All of our focus has gone into that, they’ll be desperate as well so we’ve got to be aware that there are two teams with fifteen players that are going to give absolutely everything to win a game.

Lozowski added: “That’s the challenge and that’s why we play, to be in these big games.”
