American Lamositele wants compatriots to 'fall in love' with rugby
Saracens’ Gallagher Premiership match against Harlequins on Saturday will have a global audience with the match being shown live on NBC.
The fixture will kick-off in America at 14H30 Eastern Time (19H30 GMT) and USA international Titi Lamositele is likely to continue in the Sarries front row after impressing in last weekend’s 50-27 victory over Bath.
His country’s youngest ever debutant, Lamositele believes rugby is ‘massively growing’ as the Eagles continue to improve and says the television coverage will help generate interest.
On growing up playing in USA before moving to Allianz Park, the 23-year-old said: “It was fun. A lot of it was give it to the biggest guy and watch him run with the ball!
“Coming to Saracens and the Premiership was a big, big eye-opener with things like running shape and running different lines, and to this day I’m still learning.”
He continued: “If you look at the results we’ve had with the Eagles, the Sevens programme and the Women’s programme, everything is going in the right direction.
“Having games on TV most definitely helps. All the exposure we can get to show how good rugby is as a sport is good and it’s about trying to get the Americans to fall in love with it.”
Sarries head to Quins looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season having already earned five try bonus points in their opening five outings.
Lamositele is anticipating an epic battle at The Stoop and feels the Men in Black can take their performances to a new height.
“I think the majority of the fans know about the Premiership over here but if the majority watch the game on Saturday then they’ll see a great game.
“For us we’d like to think we can take each game to a new level and a level we never knew was possible, and just try to get better every day.”
