Austerberry expects physical Waterloo test

A confrontational battle is what lies in wait for Saracens Women in the opening round of the Tyrrells Premier 15s, according to head coach Alex Austerberry.

The Women in Black begin the defence of their crown on the road at Firwood Waterloo Ladies on Saturday, kick-off 17H00.

Austerberry is aware of the challenge the Merseyside outfit represent but insists Sarries know what they have to do to secure victory.

“Waterloo are a hardworking, very physical side and it’ll be a difficult place to go and play in round one,” Austerberry said.

“It will be a hard-fought game and if we’re not in the right mind space or if we’re not at the right physical level there’s every chance we won’t come away with the points we want.

“If we can put in a performance that’s physical, that’s energetic and shows we work as hard as we can with that little bit of quality of execution, I hope we can put in a performance that looks after a result.

“There are areas of their game we can exploit and I hope we can manage the threats they pose too, and learn to fix the problems they’ll cause.”
