Austerberry: "It was a good performance with some real positives, but we know we can improve"

Head Coach Alex Austerberry gives us his take on Saturday's round 18 Tyrrells Premier 15s win over Firwood Waterloo Ladies and looks ahead to the play-offs.

It was a great day for the club as a whole on Saturday. Three great results and a special mention to the Development side who secured the league title with a run of 11 victories on the bounce.

The game against Waterloo did not start the way we hoped. We struggled getting into the game. Our error count was high, and our execution fell below the standards we set ourselves.

However, once we started to find our feet in the game, we then started to execute our game plan and our skills more consistently. Once we figured out how we could really hurt Waterloo we played some very good rugby and scored some great tries.

We were happy to not concede but we know that we have to bring more energy and bounce into that area of the game to really be at our best for the play-offs.

It was a good performance with some real positives, but we know we can improve and will have to improve for the challenges ahead.

Some of the real positives were the performances of players like May Campbell. Outstanding in attack and very efficient at set-piece.

All the players who came in to the group played well, and Chrissy Siczowa added a threat in the back row. The performance illustrated the depth we have in the group and the competition we have for places.

We are in a very good place leading up to the Wasps fixture.

The play-offs offer a very unique challenge. It is knockout rugby and there are no second chances. We put ourselves in a very strong place during the regular season and now we need to take that momentum into the play-offs.

We need to be energised, ensure we execute against opportunities and work hard in what will be physical, challenging and a testing encounter.
