Barritt Reflects On "Pretty Special" Triumphs
After Saracens secured a historic double with victory over Exeter Chiefs this weekend captain Brad Barritt gave his thoughts on this memorable end to the season.
“[It’s an] unbelievable feeling” he said. “It’s surreal, I’m so pleased for everyone involved with this club. I think of the years when Sarries weren’t there and weren’t getting the rewards they needed [and] the past six years has been an unbelievable ride and a huge amount of credit must go to Mark [McCall] and Phil Morrow and the whole management team...”
Looking back to the European triumph in Lyon a few weeks ago Barritt added “I think we had one of the highest highs as a club…two weeks ago but the focus was back there on the Monday when we started [training].The drive that we’ve had, and the support that we’ve had, we’ve been brilliantly prepared but this team’s hungry and the desire’s been there.”
After Saracens had secured a first half lead at Twickenham on Saturday Exeter Chiefs fought back in the second half to make it a three point game. Yet it was Saracens determination not to let go of their lead that was particularly impressive, as Barritt explains: “We had to show some resilience [in the final] and that’s the amazing thing, that it wasn’t a one horse race and we had to fight for it and earn it and that’s the pleasing thing”.
At the close of a memorable season for Saracens Brad had a few final words to sum up the unique culture at the club. “I love this club” he said. “It means the world to me, it means the world to me family and to do something like this is pretty special and the thing that makes it really collectively amazing is you’re doing it with guys you consider your best mates.”
“I think this team’s pretty tight and to do it [the double] with people that you respect and you love is quite something. You can look back on [it] in a few years time and have an unbelievable memory.”
