BLAST Finals 2015
On Thursday 10th and 17th December Allianz Park plays host to the year 9, 10 & 11 BLAST schools rugby finals. This term 24 registered school teams have competed across the age groups battling to earn the right for a place in the grand final’s here at Allianz Park.
Fixture Nights have continued to be put in place to support and encourage schools to complete their fixtures in a busy term of competition. Hendon RFC have continued to support the BLAST Programme hosting 3 Fixture Nights supplying students with an understanding of where one of their local clubs is to potentially continue their rugby playing careers. This year the finals will be competed between;
Year 9 Final- East Barnet Vs Finchley Catholic
Year 10 Final- East Barnet Vs Finchley Catholic
Year 11 Final- St James’ Catholic High School Vs Finchley Catholic
The BLAST Programme, now in its fifth academic year, targets new to rugby secondary schools with an overall objective to encourage each school to have sustainable curriculum based rugby going forwards. Over the past 5 years through; curriculum based delivery, assemblies, competition and teacher training 24 secondary schools within North London now successfully deliver Rugby Union under the Saracens Sports Foundation guidance. Over 5,500 students have engaged with the BLAST Programme over the past 5 years with over 40 going onto join their local rugby clubs and 38 staff becoming qualified referees. Next term the Programme will engage with 4 new schools; Walthamstow Academy, Aylward Academy, Southgate School and Highlands School. It will also be time for the year 7 and 8 teams to take centre stage as their leagues will run through until the Easter break, with the Finals being held at Allianz Park.
