Brits & co spurred on by half-time chat
Schalk Brits says Saracens half-time team talk spurred them on to produce a scintillating seven-try second-half performance against Northampton Saints.
The South African crossed for a score on 35 minutes to send Sarries into the interval two points ahead of their Aviva Premiership rivals.
The Men in Black rallied at the break and came out firing on all cylinders to record a 63-13 victory – their fourth 50-plus points win over Saints this season.
“Northampton really put up a fight in the first half and we didn’t get our machine going,” Brits said.
“After half-time things went our way. We said at half-time ‘we’re better than this… it’s a new week, a new competition, let’s do what we said we were going to do… no more talking, let’s just do it’ and the boys played very well in the second half.
“It’s an outcome of the character of the squad, the organisation of the coaches. Although we lost last weekend, the boys still tried hard and this week things just went our way.
“We’re happy with the result, there are still things we need to improve on and now our focus is trying our best to go as far as we can.”
