Bryony Cleall: Disciplinary Update

Saracens Women’s flanker Bryony Cleall appeared before an independent disciplinary panel yesterday evening.

Cleall was charged with allegedly striking Justine Lucas of Wasps FC Ladies with the hand, contrary to Law 9.12. The incident occurred in the 22nd minute of the match Wasps FC Ladies v Saracens Women on Saturday 20 January 2018.
After hearing evidence the panel, comprising Gareth Rees QC with Becky Essex and Inigo Churchill, dismissed the case. Cleall is free to play with immediate effect.

Chair of the panel Gareth Rees QC said “The panel found that the player had committed an act of foul play but that it did not pass the red card test. Given the assistant referee’s view of the incident and immediate report to the referee, the panel did not consider that the act merited a yellow card.”
