Burger looking forward to Wasps clash
Sarries travel to Coventry to face Wasps at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday as two teams who have sat at the summit of the Aviva Premiership all season take to the pitch in the final game of the regular season.
Sarries face this game ahead of the Champions Cup Final in Edinburgh next Saturday and back-rower Schalk Burger has played down the importance in terms of attaining a home Semi-Final.
The 34-year-old said: “A home semi-final is important but I don’t think it’s the be all and end all of the season, obviously our schedule has been a little more packed than theirs with us having Europe to balance with the Premiership.
“Having already qualified for the semis we obviously want to get one at home but if we don’t get one we’ll approach the semi in the same way as any other away game.
“We’ve prepared really well and will go there with the intention of not just rolling over, we want to put up a good challenge.”
Sarries rose to the top of the Premiership with a win over Wasps at Allianz Park in October but the Coventry based side have since rallied to be top of the standings coming into this final game by virtue of bonus-points after the two sides have recorded identical records.
Burger was full of praise for Wasps’ attacking brand of rugby, saying: “Obviously they play a unique style, they’ve got a lovely attacking brand of rugby, they’ve got superstars all around the pitch, not only in the back-line but at the front as well.
“It’s going to be a big challenge for us, we have differing styles, they got off to a really fast start in the Premiership and we got off to a steadier start.
“Throughout this whole season we’ve been pretty similar and will come to blows in the last game of the Premiership to decide who can qualify for a home semi-final.
He added: “They tend to play a lot more in their own half and we don’t really play so much there.
“We’re all looking forward to it, we’ve rested a few players, A couple of the guys have taken a week off but the players who will replace them are just as good.
“It’ll be my first experience of Coventry and the Ricoh Arena so I’m looking forward to it”
