Conlon and Segun Praise Professional Preparation
Saracens Storm got their ‘A’ League campaign off to a flyer on Friday evening with a 13-65 win over Bath United at the Rec.
Scorer of two of those tries, Rotimi Segun, was on fire in particular as he provided the finishing touch to two good team moves as the visitors pulled away in the second-half.
After the game, the 20-year-old shunned personal praise to say: “Obviously, I’m pleased with the brace but It was just good to get out there with the boys, we worked all week with the first team. We put everything that we trained into practice out there today.
“We set ourselves three tasks before the game, physicality, work rate and to win; we brought a relentless work rate to the game and I think that we showed that in how we blew them away in the closing stages.
“It’s been 9 weeks of pre-season now and we’ve been ready and raring to go out for this game and by the scoreline it showed because we were looking forward to it and really wanted it.
“We took it try-by-try, every play that came we just sort of relayed it back to the three things we said before the game and just executed it.”
One of Sarries’ more established members of the XV, flanker Joel Conlon, also praised the preparation and expressed his pleasure for the new faces that came into the team.
He said: “It’s brilliant, we had a pretty young team out there with some new faces so there were new systems and new moves for them; all in all, we did pretty well.
“We came in with a pretty simple plan and worked really hard for each other which, as you can see by the result, went really well.”
