Dacorum Year 3/4 Tag Festival
On Thursday 18th May 2017, Saracens Sport Foundation held their 19th Tag Festival of the 2016-2017 academic year.
The festival was held at Hemel Hempstead (Camelot) RFC and was an open invitation for all Year 5 and Year 6 pupils across the Dacorum partnership, giving them the opportunity to put into practice what they have been learning through their PE lessons and after-school clubs.
There were 400 Year 5 and Year 6 participants present for the festival with 5 teams playing on each pitch across 8 pitches in total. Utilising the facilities of Hemel Hempstead RFC all teams played 4 other schools and played 40 minutes of rugby each. The festival was a great opportunity for schools and participants to concentrate on their rugby skills and getting as many participants through the doors of their local rugby club for the first time!
The participation emphasis gave many participants the chance to play rugby in an environment whereby they feel comfortable playing a new sport, this was represented by Hobletts Primary School who brought along 80 participants with a vast array of skill sets including 2 pupils in wheelchairs who were fully able to take part into the festival by attaching tags to the side of their wheelchairs. All involved in the festival left with a certificate of participation and we look forward to welcoming back to the club in future years through our festivals as well as through club rugby!
