Duncan Taylor on Saracens' tough test against Bedford Blues
On the back of a dominating 92-0 preseason opener last week, Saracens are preparing for a fierce clash against Bedford Blues this Saturday.
Duncan Taylor, who made 17 appearances for Bedford before becoming a regular at Allianz Park, spoke about this weekend’s match.
He said: “I think they are going to give us a run for our money. They will test us all over the park, which is exactly what we need going in to such a tough and long season.
“They have a lot of talent in their team, a lot of very skilful players that love to throw the ball around. Our defence is going to have to be on the money, because they will have a crack from all over the park.”
Not only will the game be an important preseason hit out; it will also be a trip down memory lane for many Sarries.
A number of current players cut their teeth at Bedford’s Goldington Road, with it being a popular landing spot for Academy players to get Championship experience.
Jackson Wray earned 14 caps at Bedford in his Academy days.
Speaking about Saturday’s match, he said: “Speed wise the game will be up there and the standard of the contact will be up there. It is a step up a gear from last week.
“We’ve always found it a really good game, and a good test for where we are in our training. I’m sure this weekend will be no different.”
Bedford’s dynamic attack will ensure a challenge. Though the effects of last week’s travel, combined with Goldington Road’s infamous sloped pitch, might prove the biggest hurdle and will certainly put offseason fitness training to the test.
