Duncan Taylor victorious with Scotland
Sarries’ Duncan Taylor was part of a Scotland team that defeated the Wallabies 24-19, 5 years on from their last trip Down Under and in the 30th meeting between the two teams. Clashes between the two teams have been incredibly close-fought affairs in recent history, often coming down to a single point.
A bright start saw Taylor, playing today at inside centre, go over for Scotland’s first try of the match, after an error in the Aussie backs saw the number 12 take the opportunity and run in unopposed. Fly-half Finn Russell added the conversion, and after an earlier penalty from the 10, the score stood at 10-0 to the Scots.
Yellow cards exchanged hands, with players from both teams having to play periods a man down, and these opportunities both yielded their sides’ second scores.
After sustained pressure from the Wallabies, that saw them take the lead for the first time in the match, Scotland scored another excellent try, with Duncan Taylor again getting involved in the build up. The Saracens man provided the crucial offload to put back-rower Hamish Watson in, with a successful conversion, taking the score to 24-19 in favour of the men in blue.
A nervy last quarter ensued, and Scotland were forced to hang on for the win, with Australia pushing them until the final whistle. Scotland go on to play Fiji in Suva in a week’s time.
