Earl scores as England U20s run riot against Ireland

Ben Earl skippered England Under-20s to an emphatic victory against Ireland but it wasn’t enough for Steve Bates’ side to secure the Six Nations crown.

It was a late flourish which saw the hosts, using Wasps’ Ricoh Arena as their home, run out comfortable 48-15 winners but it was not enough to wrestle the Championship from France’s grasp.

England needed Les Blues to slip up against Wales to retain the trophy but the French earned their own bonus-point win to claim the title.

Saracens academy product Earl impressed as captain again and rounded off the try-scoring, collecting a pass from man of the match Gabriel Ibitoye to cross the whitewash.

England’s defeat to Scotland earlier in the tournament left them rueing what might have been.
