Energy the key to topple Toulon - Itoje
Maro Itoje says Saracens can’t ‘switch off’ against Toulon this weekend, when Saracens welcome the three-time European Champions to a packed Allianz Park on Saturday.
Saracens’ star lock forward will be lining up against the French giants, who need to win with a try-bonus point and ensure that Saracens get nothing out of the game to top the Pool.
“They’re a tough team, with a plethora of talent,” said Itoje about Saturday’s opponents. “They’re not just talented players they are top internationals and they have so many good players that you can’t switch off for a second — but it’s a big game for us too. If we bring the energy and life we do when we produce these top performances, it is going to take a very good team to beat us. It’s a challenge that we’re really looking forward to.”
Allianz Park will be packed to the rafters on Saturday with the game close to sold-out. In Saracens’ previous home fixture against Exeter Chiefs (which was also sold-out), director of rugby Mark McCall and skipper Brad Barritt commented on the fantastic support from the home fans as the battled to a 13-13 draw after being reduced to 14-men earlier on in the game.
“That game against Exeter was probably one the best atmospheres I’ve played in at Allianz Park," said Itoje, “I’ve no doubt that this weekend will be similar.”
