England Sevens duo sign for Saracens Women
Saracens Women is delighted to announce the double signing of Sarah McKenna and Chantelle Miell.
The duo join the Women in Black after being involved in the England Sevens programme.
McKenna returns to the club for a second spell following an impressive stint on the international stage.
The Harpenden-born back has been capped 14 times by her country and was last involved with the Red Roses in the summer of 2017, scoring a hat-trick against Australia at Porirua Park in New Zealand and then going on to play against Canada.
Miell, who is currently playing in Australia for Sydney University, was the top try scorer in the 2016/17 Premiership season for Bristol and will join up with Alex Austerberry’s side in October.
On re-joining Saracens, McKenna said: “I’m really excited to return to Saracens, it’s somewhere I’ve felt I’ve played my best rugby. The club are at the forefront of the women’s game and pushing the envelope on and off the field. I can’t wait to be a part of it and get stuck in to the 18/19 campaign to retain the title.”
Miell commented: “I’m really excited to be joining Saracens this season and to get the opportunity to play alongside some experienced players. I can’t wait to be back playing in the premiership and eager to see what the season will bring”.
Head coach Austerberry added: “To have two players commit to the club with the talent, experience and potential of Sarah and Chantelle is very exciting and a big indication of where we want to go as a club.
“They add real quality to an already talented group and they add additional dimensions to the way we want to play. Their experience will also be key off the field in helping shape and drive the culture and they very much compliment this.”
