Farrell and Lozowski up for RPA Awards
Saracens duo Owen Farrell and Alex Lozowski are both in the running for awards in the upcoming Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) awards night.
Fly-half Farrell is up for the RPA Players’ Player of the Year, whilst in his first full-season with Saracens, Alex Lozowski has been nominated for the RPA Young Player of the Year.
Farrell is in the running for the prestigious award that is voted for by all Aviva Premiership players and recognises the outstanding talent in English rugby. The winner will be announced at the RPA Players’ Awards 2017 on Wednesday 10th May in London.
Alongside Farrell, the other nominees include Wasps trio Elliot Daly, Jimmy Gopperth and Christian Wade and Northampton Saints forward Louis Picamoles.
The prolific fly-half has been in impressive form for club and country this season, and continues to lead Sarries’ push for domestic and European silverware. Owen is also nominated for the England Player of the Year award.
Owen Farrell said: “It’s very pleasing to be nominated for such a prestigious and well respected award. The Premiership is such a competitive league, so to be nominated as one of the five best players is an incredible feeling and one which I’m very proud of. As always, a big thanks to my peers for the kind recognition.”
The RPA Young Player of the Year 2017 as voted for by Aviva Premiership players based on performances in domestic rugby this season. To qualify for the RPA Young Player of the Year Award players must have been 23 or under at the start of the season with current holder Sarries lock, Maro Itoje.
Saracens exciting fly-half Alex Lozowski has excelled in North London this season, appearing in 20 matches and amassing a crucial 160 points to become an important part in the club’s potent attack. In his first year at Allianz Park, he has been a member of Eddie Jones’ England EPS group and alongside fellow Sarries Nathan Earle and Nick Isiekwe, he will tour Argentina this summer with the Red Roses.
Alex Lozowski said: “It’s a superb feeling to be nominated by the guys you play against week in, week out, and I’m extremely happy to be up for such a great award. Hopefully as a club we can continue playing well and have a really strong finish to the season.”
