Farrell and Vunipola nominated for England Player of the Year

Two Saracens players have been nominated for the England Player of the Year award.

Owen Farrell and Mako Vunipola form part of a three-man shortlist alongside Northampton Saints’ Courtney Lawes.

The accolade, in association with All Sport Insurance, is presented to the outstanding England player from the 2017/18 season as voted by the elite playing squad.

Farrell, who won the award in 2017, has featured six times for England this term and captained his country in the Six Nations.

He said: “It’s the biggest honour to be recognised by your team-mates and is the biggest accolade a player can receive.

“After winning this Award last season, I am extremely thankful to be nominated again and I must thank my England team-mates and the coaches for their support.”

Vunipola played 462 minutes for Eddie Jones’ side and impressed with his ball carrying and tackling statistics.

“I am very honoured to have the respect and support of my fellow England peers,” he said.

“It’s very pleasing, I love every minute of representing my country and to be recognised in this way is a great feeling.”

The winner will be announced at the RPA Players’ Awards 2018 on Wednesday 9th May at Battersea Evolution in London.
