Fleetwood returns to Saracens Women
Saracens Women are pleased to announce the return of Vicky Fleetwood to the club.
The 28-year-old joins the Women in Black after plying her trade with England on the sevens circuit since 2015.
A dynamic and powerful front rower, Fleetwood’s first spell at Sarries came after she was part of the successful England squad that lifted the 2014 World Cup in France.
The Nuneaton-born former junior hurdler first appeared for her country aged 21 and raced to 50 caps by July 2015.
She became involved with England Sevens at the Rugby Europe Grand Prix in Kazan that year and played the final three legs of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in 2018 before featuring in the Sevens World Cup in San Francisco.
Fleetwood adds a wealth of experience to the Saracens squad and head coach Alex Austerberry is excited about her return.
“Vicky’s return to Saracens following her involvement in the England 7s programme is a huge boost for the entire club,” he said.
“In the meetings with Vicky, it was clear how driven and focused she is on maximising her potential and becoming the best player she can be and that is exactly the type of character we want at the club.
“Having another World Cup winner with us for next season will improve us both on and off the field and that is why she is not only an exciting addition to the group but an outstanding one.”
Fleetwood added: "After spending the last year playing for England Sevens, I’m excited to be returning to 15s and especially being back with Sarries.
“Their free-flowing brand of rugby is what’s so attractive to me and I can’t wait to get stuck in. Their record in the Premier 15s speaks for itself and I hope this season will be another successful one for the team."
