Focused Saracens 'excited' for Derby Day - Spencer
Sarries scrum-half Ben Spencer has reiterated the squad’s need to stay focused ahead of the club’s match with Harlequins at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking during the week, he reflected upon the club’s emphatic win over Glasgow at the weekend and the current atmosphere in the camp.
He said:“It’s brilliant, I think a lot of the lads are still buzzing from the weekend and obviously, we want to take that energy into this weekend. It’s a big stage at Wembley and the lads are keen to get back out there”
Spencer is back in contention this weekend after a 2-week lay-off and is expecting professional preparation as they build-up to take on the challenge of Quins on Derby Day.
He explained: “We prepare like we do every week and we don’t really consider the fact that it is at Wembley and that it is on a big stage. It’s another game that we need to prepare for as well as possible. We’ve had a good week’s training and hopefully we can take that into today and into the weekend”
The 24-year-old has scored three tries so far this season but, echoing the message of other squad members, he insists that it is all about the team effort rather than chasing individual accolades and achievements.
“I think I just need to play as well as possible and do my job as well as I can to help the team.”, Spencer emphasised.
“I think the good thing about this squad is that everyone works hard for each other, no one’s in it for themselves. For me, it’s just about working as hard as I possibly can to get the result for the boys at the end of the game”
