Four try Sarries book Champions Cup semi final spot
Saracens booked their place in the Champions Cup semi finals for the fifth successive time with a 38-13 over Glasgow Warriors at a packed out 15,000 capacity Allianz Park.
The home side got off to a flying start and could have been in for two tries within the space of the opening five minutes but for a foot in touch for both Sean Maitland and Chris Ashton.
Saracens’ first points of the day came from the boot of Owen Farrell who kicked three penalties to give Sarries a 9-3 lead in the opening period of play.
Yet despite their explosive opening Saracens were constrained by the Glasgow defence until the half hour mark when Chris Ashton went over in the corner to score and reward Sarries’ dominant first half efforts. Farrell couldn’t manage the conversion and the sides went in at the break with the score 14-3 in favour of the home side.
Glasgow came out after the break much improved and their efforts were rewarded when Lee Jones broke free to score and take the score to 14-8. Russell couldn’t convert but Glasgow had managed to haul themselves back into the game.
The Warriors continued to keep pace with their hosts until the final twenty minutes when Marcelo Bosch carved through the defence to extend Sarries lead to 19-8.
It seemed the Saracens attack was too much for Glasgow to contain as the Men in Black hit their straps to run in two more scores in the final ten minutes. Captain Brad Barritt added a third score on 73 minutes before Chris Ashton sealed the win with a second score with five minutes to play.
It was Glasgow who had the final word however; the Warriors showcasing a never say die attitude to mount a final attack with the clock turned red. Ryan Wilson the scorer but Russell’s conversion flew wide to make final score 38-13 to Saracens.
