Get Onside receives recognition as David Camerons prison reform agenda is revealed

The State opening of Parliament sets out the Government agenda for the coming Parliamentary year. With the Statement written by the Govenment and read and delivered by the Queen it's clear focus for the year ahead is around Prisons and the rehabilitation of offenders.

“My government will legislate to reform prisons and courts to give individuals a second chance. Prison Governors will be given unprecedented freedom and they will be able to ensure prisoners receive better education” HRM Queens Elizabeth's Speech

Damian Collins MP for Folkestone and Hythe, champions the power of sport and how this should be at the heart of David Cameron’s reform agenda.

Mr Collins writes in The Daily Telegraph of the work that the Saracens Sport Foundation has already achieved with its award winning ‘Get Onside’ programme, stating “Saracens Rugby Club, newly crowned champions of Europe, already have a blueprint of how this can be put into practice – literally”

Our work at the Foundation in partnership with the dedicated and passionate staff at HMP YOI Feltham is bearing great results in nurturing fine citizens that live and breathe the values we hold dear (Workrate, Humility, Honesty and Discipline) not only at Saracens but in life!

Senior Sports Development Manager Owain Davies believes the successful outcomes of the programme are down to a number of important factors “Our partnership with the staff in Feltham Prison has contributed to our incredible results. The fact we have engaged with over 90 young offenders and only 7 have reoffended is an incredible achievement. This represents a successful model that focuses on developing a person's ability to positively engage in their community upon release. Through the power of sport and a bespoke development plan that supports the individual, we are helping them to achieve their potential.”
