Goode sets the tone ahead of pre-season tour
Alex Goode hopes to use Saracens pre-season tour of Bermuda to establish a winning culture with the team’s new faces.
In his first full pre-season in over six years, Goode spoke about using the opportunity to set the tone for the year and build relationships with younger players.
He said: “We want to win. Win every game, be competitive, and push each other as hard as possible. But with our pre-season tour we also get to relax. Maybe play some golf, get some time on the beach.
“You work on those relationships and get to know people, their families, their motivations, their friends; whatever it is. I think it’s brilliant.”
Goode, 29, is entering his 12th season at Saracens and has embraced his role as a leader.
With Sarries six Lions players yet to return to full action, he said there is a bigger role for experienced players like himself to get the younger and newer players up to speed.
He added: “I know what’s expected of us and we’ve got to push those standards and show those young guys what it means to play for Saracens.”
Though with training underway, Goode is encouraged by what he has seen so far.
He said: “With the transition to more training sessions there are always going to be a few teething problems, but I think everyone’s adjusting really well.
“It’s very frantic and quick to start with, but there’s certainly a huge amount of energy and people are doing well.”
Saracens travel to Bermuda next week, taking on the USA Islanders in their first pre-season clash on 10th August.
