Gustard hails Fraser showing
Paul Gustard has hailed Will Fraser’s performance in Saracens’ win against Worcester Warriors at Bramley Road.
Fraser, who was named Man of the Match in his 60 minutes on the field, showed glimpses of the ability that saw the 25-year old included in Stuart Lancaster’s England set-up in both 2013 and 2014. After an injury plagued 2014/15 season, Saracens defence and forward coach Gustard believes Fraser’s return to the fold can provide the club with some fresh impetus, describing his return as akin to a “new signing”.
Speaking after Saracens 40-21 win over the Warriors, Gustard said: “The pleasing thing for us as coaches was the way the likes of Will Fraser and Jackson Wray really stood up and played with such aplomb.
“It’s brilliant to have Will back, and it’s like a new signing in many ways as we didn’t have Will at all last season and we were very fortunate that Jacques Burger went through the season pretty much unscathed. So to get a player of his calibre who was knocking on England’s door let’s not forget, is great for us.”
Gustard added: “He’s had a brilliant preseason, and he’s only had six weeks of rugby in amongst that – the work he’s done away from the field has been superb.”
