Hargreaves looking forward to Twickenham return
With a new slot in the calendar, due to the Rugby World Cup, the London Double Header takes place in Round 5 of Aviva Premiership Rugby 2015-16, with reigning Aviva Premiership Rugby Champions Saracens taking on league newcomers Worcester Warriors at 3.15pm, before London Irish clash with their old rivals Wasps at 5.30pm.
And for Hargreaves it’s all about continuing to build some much-needed early season form to avoid a repeat of last season, where Saracens squeezed into the end-of-season play-offs on the final weekend of the campaign.
“We’re always excited to play at Twickenham,” he said. “It’s a great day out, for a spectator it’s phenomenal. It’s something that doesn’t happen very often in sport, so it’s nice to pack out the stadium with all the fans and hopefully there’ll be some great rugby.”
Hargreaves admits Saracens will not be looking to reinvent the wheel this season as they prepare to defend their hard-earned Aviva Premiership crown.
“We won’t change our philosophy and the way we do things just because we’re the champions,” he added. “We said the same at the beginning of last season that we had to do the same as we had in the two previous seasons, even though we lost in the final.
“We’re going to keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last eight or nine years and we hope that can put us towards the sharp end of the season.
“There’s always a target on our back. We finished top of the table in the two years before last season, and we lost two finals two seasons ago, so if you’re consistently playing good rugby, which a lot of players in the Aviva Premiership are these days, you’re going to have a target.
“It’s a compliment to us, and we’ll keep trying hard knowing that it’s a very competitive league. I think it’s the most competitive that it’s been for a while, certainly since I’ve been involved.”
