I'm just trying to learn as much as I can - Malins
Max Malins is ready to take everything he’s learned from a positive pre-season into the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership campaign.
The 21-year-old was selected at fly-half for both of Saracens’ pre-season friendlies, helping the Men in Black to victories over Bedford Blues and Ospreys.
Blessed with several high-quality Saracens players in the backs, former England Under-20 international Malins wants to soak up as much as he can to improve.
“It’s a new role for me leading the team at 10 and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve enjoyed stepping up to it,” he said.
“It’s great experience; obviously having the England players around me and top senior players who have been at the club for years and years is great and I’m just trying to learn as much as I can from them, take that into my game and become a better leader.”
Saracens crossed 13 times in their two pre-season matches, accumulating 88 points in the process.
Ospreys proved to be a physical test at the HAC and Malins feels that will stand the side in good stead heading into their season opener at Newcastle Falcons.
“We’re feeling very good. We took things forward to learn from against Bedford; we weren’t quite clinical enough in attack and this was a tough contest so there are positives to take into Newcastle next week.
“One thing we pride ourselves on is having the right mentality and physicality comes under that. Every man stood up to the physical test and proved their worth.“
