"I think the players showed everybody what playing for the club means for them." Says McCall
Mark McCall was full of praise for his whole squad after they booked a home quarter final in the Champions Cup with a closely fought win over Toulon at Allianz Park.
“We like to judge ourselves on simple things and mostly effort” he said after the game. “Everyone knows who’s not playing and everyone knows the disruption we’ve had, [so] for us to go toe to toe like we did against more or less their full strength side showed the effort, especially defensively, that we showed all game.”
Saracens performance was underlined by some strong outings from the likes of Nick Tompkins and man of the match Jackson Wray. "There were some coming of age performances today” reflected McCalll. “Someone like Nick Tompkins up against two world class centres [was] magnificent today and stood up, and Jackson Wray as well."
Looking ahead to the quarter final McCall said “Its brilliant to be here [in a home quarter final] a second year in a row, I thought the crowd were great tonight. It was an incredible effort by everybody and I think the players showed everybody what playing for the club means for them.”
