In-form Ashton looks back at Oyonnax rout
Hat-trick hero Chris Ashton said he was delighted with his side’s start to the season, after the in-form wing ran in three tries in Saracens’ tenth win of the season over Oyonnax on Saturday.
Ashton moved into the top three European Champions Cup try scorers list with his trio of tries at Allianz Park, and the prolific try scorer has challenged his side to continue their rich vein of form over a busy festive period.
After picking up the Man of the Match award in Saracens eight 55-13 win, Ashton said: “We’ve got some tough games to play in this group. Toulouse away is always a hard place to play, and Ulster are really beginning to hit their straps. We’re where we want to be in this Pool but we know they are some challenges ahead. It’s week by week for us, it’s so clichéd but that is the way rugby goes, and for us next is Wasps and that’s what we are concentrating on."
On the game, he added: “It was a good day. We’re glad to be back home and winning again. It can be difficult backing up from the week before when you play these back-to-back games, as you don’t know what to expect from the opposition so we’re just happy to get the win, get the bonus point and long may it continue.
“There’s a few things that we are disappointed with as well, we weren’t quite on it in attack and I think we left a couple of opportunities out there again today. We’ve got a couple of things to work on but we couldn’t be happier with how we’ve been playing and the position we’re in at the moment.“
