Isiekwe enjoying the flank
Nick Isiekwe is enjoying the challenge of playing at blindside flanker for Saracens.
The 19-year-old lock has operated as a wing forward this season with Sarries depleted in the back row due to injury.
England international Isiekwe has certainly made an impression at six with Mark McCall selecting him there for Sunday’s Champions Cup clash against Leinster, and he is determined to put in good display on the big stage.
“I definitely enjoy playing flanker; it’s a bit of a change from second row but it’s good,” Isiekwe told Sarries TV.
“I think it frees me up to play a bit more, express myself and you get to run around and be involved a bit more.
“I want to make sure I go out there (on Sunday) and do my family and the boys proud. I want to put everything out there; it’s a big occasion but I’m sure we’ll do well.”
It is the seventh consecutive season Saracens have reached the last eight stage of Europe’s main competition.
The Men in Black have reaped the rewards of consistency by securing back-to-back titles and Isiekwe says everyone is fixated on doing a job at the Aviva Stadium.
He said: “The consistency has been massive – for the club, the players and staff involved. It shows the work we’ve put in is paying dividends and to be a part of that is amazing.
“It’s been a good week and there is a lot of stuff the boys want to nail down; everyone has pitched in and we’re raring to go. We’ve all got stuck into it, we’re geared up and ready.
“We’re at the money end of the season and everyone knows that. Everyone is focused and we know what we need to do.
“The Champions Cup is a massive competition, we’ll take it in our stride and prepare as well as we can and make sure we’re and up for the challenge.”
