Isiekwe happy to get stuck in from the off
Most players enjoy their downtime in the off-season and want it to continue for a few weeks longer, but Nick Isiekwe was itching to get back to Saracens following a prolonged bit of time off.
The 20-year-old spent his summer touring South Africa with England, earning his first Test start, before returning to pre-season at the end of July.
The versatile youngster had another international training camp last weekend but can now put all his focus on Sarries’ pre-season.
“We’re back into it,” Isiekwe said.
“Coming back to Saracens it’s good to see the boys and you always look forward to getting back into training. It’s been good to get back into it with the boys, meet up and discuss what we need to do going forward and what we need to improve on.
“I love training and getting stuck in so it’s always good to come back from time off and get stuck in straight away.”
Isiekwe received great plaudits last season for his displays at lock and on the flank and picked up Saracens Young Player of the Season for his efforts.
The former Haileybury schoolboy feels at home in both positions and doesn’t mind where he’s selected as long as it benefits the team.
“I’m happy to play in multiple positions – four, five or six – it doesn’t matter to me. I’m happy to play wherever the coach sees fit.
“There are a lot of similarities between the two. Both positions are demanding and require you to push on as hard as you can.”
