It’s a great game to test ourselves - Itoje
Maro Itoje feels Sunday’s Champions Cup quarter-final at Leinster is a perfect opportunity for Saracens to show what they are about.
Sarries got back to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership last weekend with England international Itoje awarded man of the match.
Director of Rugby Mark McCall said following the game at London Stadium his side would need to up their game against Leo Cullen’s Leinster and Itoje believes there is a buzz around the club going into the all-important match.
“The boys are looking sharp,” he told Sarries TV.
“These are the kind of games and positions we want to be in; we want to be in knockout stages of competitions and we want to go far.
“This is a big game for us and everyone at the club is excited to go there and put in a big performance.”
He continued: “I’m quite familiar with quite a few of their players; they’re a very strong team with a lot of good individuals.
“They are a well-drilled, well-coached team so it’s going to be a big challenge for us. This is a great game to test ourselves and show what we’re really about.”
One of Itoje’s second row counterparts Nick Isiekwe has been plying his trade at blindside flanker of late.
The 19-year-old has established himself in the Saracens game day 23 and Itoje was quick to pay tribute to him.
“Despite his rather weird demeanour, he’s actually got a lot about him!” he joked.
“He has developed very nicely and has grown into a fantastic player.
“He’s working hard on his game and this kind of platform is great for him to show everyone what he can do.”
