It's lovely to be back - Burger
Schalk Burger is pleased to be back in action following a long spell on the sidelines.
The former South Africa international earned his second lot of minutes this season, coming on as a replacement in Saracens’ bonus-point win over Bath in the Gallagher Premiership.
It’s been a long road to recovery for Burger and the veteran back rower is looking forward to getting back up to full speed as soon as possible.
“It’s lovely to be back,” he said.
“I ripped my hamstring off the bone at the end of last season so I’ve been out for a while, it took a while to get back but it’s lovely to be back especially when the team is playing so well.
“The body feels good. I haven’t had too many minutes, not too many impacts and the weather has been good. As the weeks pass I’ll feel sharper and sharper.”
Sarries held a slender lead at the break against Bath before putting the game to bed in the second period, adding four tries to the four they scored in the first half.
Despite being the third player to admit the side’s first 40 display wasn’t up to Wolfpack standards, Burger says the performance as a whole was unyielding.
“We put enough pressure on them to have a good lead going into half-time but unfortunately we made a couple of mistakes and there was a couple of opportunist tries from them.
“The second half was a pretty relentless 40 minutes and we managed to score a few points against them and overall that was pleasing.”
