It's nice to help the team out - Tompkins
Nick Tompkins put in a barnstorming performance for Saracens at Lyon but was quick to pay homage to his teammates for the European display at Stade de Gerland.
The centre opened the scoring for the Men in Black with a cute step before adding his second and the visitors’ third with a leg-pumping run off the back of a maul early in the second period.
Sarries qualified for the quarter-finals of the Heineken Champions Cup as a result of their 28-10 victory in France, and a positive result against Glasgow Warriors at Allianz Park would seal a home fixture.
Tompkins insists Saracens’ bonus-point win was a massive plus heading into next Saturday’s clash.
“It’s good, it’s nice to get a couple of tries!”
“It’s nice to help the team out, just weaselling away but it’s the win that is important.”
He continued: “That was a tough game; a good game.
“They kept it in-field a lot and it was a big shift from a lot of the boys – the forwards… unbelievable work from them; Mako with two assists was unbelievable.
“Every time we come away we see it as a great opportunity to show what we’re about and I think we did that here. There are obviously things we want to improve on but we showed that in spades.
“It’s a massive ‘big up’ to us to take into Glasgow.”
