Jamie George: "We Need a Response"
Jamie George says that he is excited for this weekend’s trip to face Clermont in the second instalment of Saracens’ double-header with the French Champions.
George was part of Monday’s re-arranged fixture that was won by Clermont and says that the team needs to show a response after tasting defeat in that encounter.
When asked about he and his teammates’ forthcoming trip to the Stade Marcel-Michelin, the England international said: “It’s exciting, we need a response from the way that we played on Monday.
“I think we’re all disappointed with the way we played but us as players individually need to have a look at our game and we’ll do that this week.
“We’ll learn from it this week, we’ve got players who care about this club and because we care about it, we’ll learn from it and put it right next Sunday. It’s going to be a huge game but we’ve got to make sure that individually we’re good to go.”
Despite tasting defeat, George praised the preparation for the game and that the mood in camp was positive heading into the game.
The 27-year-old explained: “I thought that our preparation was excellent all week and that’s almost the most frustrating thing that we were in such a good place going into this game; we responded well to last week’s defeat.
“In the build-up to the game all of the right things were said and the coaches did a brilliant job on the analysis side of things so everything that happened out on the field was expected but we didn’t front up enough to respond to it.”
George, a two-time Champions Cup winner with Saracens, also said that the team is focused on making sure that by the end of January things will be back on track, saying:
“It hurts, of course it does but the way we respond now is the important thing; that scar that’s left now in six weeks’ time if we come away from that period and are proud of the performances we put in, then we’ll feel a lot better.”
